Local Time in Finland Finland is 2 hours ahead of United Kingdom/Ireland. Back to top
Insurance Insurance cover is mandatory on all tours. If you have not availed of the Canterbury travel insurance policy, it is a requirement that you purchase a policy which will cover your party for all the activities you plan to undertake. In particular if booking a snowmobile safari you will need third party liability. It is important to realise that many policies that cover winter sports will not cover some of the activities available so please check carefully. Click here for our insurance policy. Back to top
Currency and Money The currency in Finnish Lapland is the Euro. These should be obtained directly from your Bank/Building Society etc. prior to your departure as Rovaniemi airport has very limited exchange facilities and time does not allow for this activity. There is no bank or bank machine in the resort of Luosto although the Luostotunturi Hotel can offer limited currency exchange facilities. The nearest bank to Luosto is 40kms away in the town of Sodankyla.Back to top
Safaris and Tours Minimum Numbers: It is important to remember that many of the safaris and tours featured in this brochure require a minimum number of participants in order to operate. If sufficient numbers are not reached we reserve the right to cancel the tour, and we will advise you no less than 8 weeks prior to departure. At that time we will either offer you alternative departure dates or a full refund of all monies paid. Back to top
Infants Infants under two years of age on the date of the return flight will travel for just £35. However, many of the holidays in this brochure are not suitable for infants or very young children, and you should consider the weather conditions and nature of the resort and holidays when deciding whether to take an infant. Child Reductions Child ages for all excursions/safaris in this brochure are defined as between the ages of 2-11 years. For the basic package with accommodation refer to price panels. There are no child reductions for flight only option.Back to top
Itineraries Due to the variable weather conditions in Lapland, we must reserve the right to amend or cancel any part of the tours or safaris if we consider that conditions are unsafe. Normally alternative routes or activities will be offered, and we will advise you as soon as possible prior to departure or during your tour. In such circumstances that a suitable alternative cannot be offered we shall offer an alternative date or full voucher refund. Back to top
Health and Safety Many of the tours and safaris that we operate require stringent safety procedures and involve a certain degree of risk. We select our suppliers only on the basis of their health and safety policies, and experienced and knowledgeable guides will accompany all tours and safaris. Every participant on these tours and safaris will be given full safety instructions prior to the commencement of the tour, and it is important that everyone concerned follow these instructions and exercise proper caution. There are minimum ages on certain safaris and these are indicated on the relevant pages throughout this brochure. There are also very strict laws concerning the use of snowmobiles, especially concerning alcohol. The same drink-driving laws that apply to road vehicles also apply to snowmobiles, and penalties can be severe. The health and safety of all our guests is of paramount concern to us, as well as all our suppliers (hotels, cabins, tours etc.), who are required to meet all local Health & Safety and Fire regulations. Clothing, equipment and luggage You can pre-book thermal suits and boots which are suitable for most activities in Lapland, as well as all the necessary equipment for downhill, snowboarding and cross-country skiing (see page 10), and we certainly recommend that you do so. We also recommend that rather than bring a few “thick” jumpers etc., you bring lots of “thin” layers (e.g. T-shirts, vests etc.) which will trap the heat in and keep you much warmer. Do not forget waterproof or padded gloves, hat, sunglasses, and (if you are not hiring any of our own clothing), waterproof boots, salopettes and ski jacket. For cross-country skiing and snowshoe walking, you may only need a light waterproof jacket and tracksuit, as this activity will normally generate enough heat to keep you warm. For overnight snowmobile and husky safaris, as well as a number of the other tours, we recommend you take a back-pack or knap-sack, as you will be required to take enough luggage with you, for the entire tour, on the back of the vehicle.Back to top
Snowmobiles Drivers must be a minimum of 15 years old, and be in possession of a full UK driving license (which may need to be produced). All drivers are expected to display caution when driving their vehicle (not too close, not too fast or too slow etc.). Snowmobile safaris and tours are based on just one person per vehicle, as this is the best and safest way to fully enjoy the experience. However, if there are two persons per vehicle even greater degrees of safety need to be taken. Back to top
Prices Holiday prices are expressed in £’s per person, based on at least two adults sharing a room or cabin, unless otherwise specified. All holiday prices include return flight from London Gatwick or Manchester including in-flight meals and free luggage allowance of 20 kgs (44 lbs.), accommodation and board basis as booked for seven nights, return transport from Rovaniemi to your accommodation, services of a full-time representative and all airport, security and government taxes. Additionally, on safari holidays, the price will include your mode of transport (snowmobile or huskies and sled) and all associated costs, as well as the services of a full-time guide. It is important to note that, unlike a number of operators, our safaris are based on one person per vehicle or sled, rather than two. It is important that you consider the overall enjoyment of the safari rather than the saving that you could make by travelling on a snowmobile or sled with two persons. All other costs are optional and extra - ski packs, activity tours, thermal clothing, meal supplements, holiday insurance etc. Back to top
Free Group Places Group reductions are available throughout the season at various properties. Depending on the week chosen you may be able to receive a 1 free place for every 9 full paying passengers. 2 children travelling at the child price will be considered as 1 full paying passenger. Please see price panels for specific accommodation for details.Back to top
Cabins All cabins are provided with smoke detectors, fire alarms and/or fire extinguishers. It is important to familiarise yourself with their location, and to exercise caution when lighting and extinguishing open log fires. Duplex cabins, with beds on the first floor, normally have steep, narrow wooden stairs. Although they are all provided with safety gates at the top it is important to ensure that all children are cautioned and supervised whilst using these stairs. Most of the cabins in Luosto are individually designed and built. Therefore, the cabin layouts, sizes and facilities may differ slightly from the descriptions included in this brochure. Importantly all cabins have log fires and saunas as well as being centrally heated.Back to top
